New RX 580 6 Card Build is Live!

By Jerad Hill · On December 22, 2017

Today I got my latest build online and mining. This was the first build that actually gave me any trouble. I had a PCIe adapter not work, but then I put it on another rig and it worked. I had a monitor cable start to act weird at the same time I installed the drivers for the GPU so I thought the driver was bad. I had to reflash the bios in two cards a couple of times. It was a mess. It was a perfect build to film because I was able to produce a lot of troubleshooting content.

I filmed this latest build to produce a course on building a 6 card mining rig. Now I know that there is a ton of content online about building rigs, but there’s always a few elements missing from each video. I will be working on editing the course over the next week and plan to launch it on Udemy.Com with a sale price for those who purchase the course early. I will officially launch the course with a complete outline of the course, but for now, you can signup for the pre-release which will get you a huge discount on the course, and early access.

The course is now live, check it out!

The new rig has been running for a couple of hours now. Though almost all of the components are the same as my previous build there are two cards that are different. There is an XFX RX 580 and a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580. Those Sapphire Nitro+ cards are powerhouses out of the box without any mods. I have never seen an RX 580 hash at 28 mh/s mining ETH out of the box.

The new rig is currently mining ETH using Claymore Miner v.10 and I am mining through Nanopool. The rig currently is running at 174 mh/s but one card is underperforming. I think I may need to reflash the bios on that card. Trying a different overclock profile on it does nothing.

With that said, it was a fun build. It gave me plenty of issues but it has been up and mining for hours now and is doing just fine. I look forward to editing this course so I can get it up on Udemy.com. I have had so many questions about mining and though I am still learning, I have the build process down.

Stay tuned to the blog and the YouTube channel for more videos to come soon.
